Emerald Civic Review

Editorial policy

Emerald Civic Review aims to explain civic processes accurately and plainly. We distinguish established descriptions from interpretation, state the limits of general explanations and do not imply that a single account fits every place.

Accuracy and clarity

We check factual statements against relevant, reliable material available to the editorial process, and take care with dates, terminology and context. We explain uncertainty where it matters and avoid overstating what a document or process can establish. Articles are written for general understanding, not as professional, legal or official advice.

Independence

Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the publication's subject. A commercial relationship does not buy favourable coverage or control over editorial conclusions. Where an arrangement could reasonably affect how a piece is read, we make that relationship clear.

Corrections

Readers can report a possible error through the Contact page. We review specific, actionable reports and correct material when warranted, making significant changes clear in the affected article. A correction is not a promise to adopt a reader's preferred interpretation.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid or partner material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Partner placements are identified in their presentation, and editorial articles are not disguised advertisements. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; when used, they are identified as such.
