Write for us
Emerald Civic Review welcomes pitches that make civic life easier to understand without flattening its complications. Send proposals through the Contact page; we do not accept drafts or pitches through another channel.
What we welcome
Pitch explainers on enduring civic concepts, careful readings of public documents, comparisons between stages of a process, and accounts of how civic language shapes understanding. Strong proposals have a clear reader question and a defined subject within institutions, decisions, records, participation or civic language.
What makes a good pitch
In a short note, give us a working title, the question the piece answers, its central point, why it matters to a general reader and the evidence or sources you expect to use. Flag any location-specific rules, conflicts of interest or limits that affect the proposal. We favour precise, original angles over broad surveys and promotional copy.
Editorial expectations
Contributions must be accurate, clearly sourced where needed and written in a direct, fair-minded voice. We may ask for revisions or decline a pitch that depends on unsupported claims, treats one jurisdiction as universal, or reads as advocacy or advertising. Sending a proposal does not guarantee publication.
